CORRESPONDENTS often (rightly) chastise cyclists who flout the law. As a careful cyclist, I see motorists breaking every rule in the Highway Code flagrantly, with little or no action taken by our so-called guardians of the law.

They park on bends and corners, on the brow of hills (lethal to others), too close to road junctions, and on both sides of narrow roads, causing obstructions, with impunity.

Outside the town centre we see little police presence, so, where are they? Hiding behind trees, trapping the odd erring motorist; speed cameras now do most of this work for them.

Bring back the old-time “bobby on the beat”, and he/she will quickly sort out lunatic cyclists and selfish motorists who endanger others.
