OVER the years, I have made many visits to Bournemouth, most recently at the end of April. Having suffered a stroke, I am now forced to use an electric scooter in order to move around.
In doing so, I have discovered, to my surprise, that Bournemouth is not friendly to the users of pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Little thought appears to have been given to making it easy, or even possible, to cross many of the roads, with a “dropped” pavement on one side of the road but none on the opposite side.
When attempting to cross the entrance to the theatre car park, I was faced with a climb of several inches, which my scooter could not manage, in order to regain the pavement.
Two young gentlemen came to my assistance and lifted the scooter and me on to the pavement. Should they happen to read this letter, I would like to express my sincere thanks to them. I wrote immediately to the Borough Council with details of the problems which I encountered but they have yet to reply or acknowledge my letter.
