I DIDN’T know whether to laugh or cry, grin or gag! What is it with our councillors and council directors?
Tonight’s (Wed 30) Echo reports on Boscombe Surf Reef and the contractors’ final deadline.
The statement of Mark Smith, the council’s director of tourism says: “The reef has made a proven contribution to rejuvenating the seafront”.
Excuse me, £3million of council taxpayers’ money wasted is the truth of the matter.
The only impact the reef has made is the additional signs stating the ‘Danger’, and the exclusion zone around this abject failure by the council.
Then we have a letter by Cllr Anne Filer, cabinet member for corporate efficiency, (who has got the longest non-title in the council), berating visitors to Bournemouth for their comments, constructive criticism or is it their truthfulness?
She advises them to “concentrate on what is happening where they live instead of ranting about us here in Bournemouth”.
Bournemouth is in need of contented visitors, and councillors need to wise up to that fact.
I wonder if she has read the other letters on the page, a Swindon visitor; a Broadstone visitor, all commenting on the lamentable situations they found.
Take off your rose-tinted spectacles please, councillor; own up to the actual state of the town, and start working on the infrastructure Bournemouth residents deserve, not any of the Council’s ‘innovative and bold schemes, – our residents are happy’.
This resident is not and has had enough of build and demolish schemes.
